Action New Perspective

The first song on Intravaganza. It's a good beginner song with a bit of geetar wacking to create that humming sound at the very beginning before moving into a rapidly moving swirl of instruments, making good use of the double geetar, as per usual. Pete's (I'm pretty sure) vocals are nice and wispy and suit the music. It has it's dynamic moments but over all it's kind of slow and making excellent use of the double geetar element.

What Should Already Be Known

My first sighting said "There’s no need to fret" but then it changed around and I start to wonder I know whats been done and I could respond but I might hold back and foil the reaction So I write my name then I bait my toungue(?)let the words eat the page and I start to panic I lay down my head/pen in a public place. Couldn’t hide myself with all your connections(?)To my disgust(?)sitting alone something something to my surprise I say what should already be known Say what should already be known repeat for a while.

A potential classic and one of my personal favourites along with I grew old and Defectable. Drum, bass and some what amaturish vocals lead quietly to song uplifting soloish stuff and a great rhythm kind of thing. Every so often, like inbetween verses, there's a little bass bit. This adds suspense or some such crap. The vocals get more competent and the music more frentic and desperate as the song moves along. Another solo, some over enthusiastic vocals. Yeah. It's great.

Defectable

Wrote a letter to an old friend never said spelling out my true intent took a while to recall just what it meant feeling like a sentiment (?)the list just got longerer things I’ll never get to say god knows you better get it soon fall in too(?) cause something is something I get help (?) on the many things I never know. Would you give it all to be there beside yourself looking all like someone else. Just imagine why you kneel down flat to say(?) they can see me act this way tonight The something gets longer we can't figure out this bit (?)They say something is a memory that’s meant to be so something.

Thats all I can figure out of Defectable. It's an excellent song, recently performed on ABC's shit recovery program. Nice little lead geetar line, lovely bass line too really. The vocals are smooth and clever, on Intravaganza at least. It's not too fast, it's not too slow. It's just perfect. Kind of relaxed and wistful. Max sings it and Paul does the backing vocals I'm pretty sure. It's got a purty little solo as well, but, unlike other songs, it isn't all solo. Ya. It's a goodun.

Pre accidental

I had a dream that's ended about staying out all night. Leaving, in bed at dawn, was that the first time you were deprived? Was that the worst time of your life? I had a dream that ended of pre-accidental time, leaving at 5am when he laughed at his replies for the last time in his life (monster guitar solo, fade out...)

Weird quiet bit at the start. I vary between liking this song and humming it happyily to myself and being unable to stand it. For no reason, it's not like it's in a style I particuarly object to or anything. Not my favourite Flat Stanley song. Kind of popish vocals, the drums work quite nicely and the "monster geetar solo" isn't too bad.

Charity Kiss

Yesterday you woke up and you touched me while I was still asleep. Afterwards you showered and I wondered why I wasn’t in my bed Later I floated home (then Pete goes:later I floated home) felt sore, went to work (and Pete goes: felt sore, went to work) On my arms a red mark where you bit(?) so tight your nails went through my skin. Now I’m thinking about the time you will break my skin again Because I want you now (Pete again:Because I want you now) Just like a you fucked me then: Madcapped Geetar solo

It's got a kind of. Hmm. Slowish. Almost mystical thing going. Mystery. Ya. It has a winding lead geetar and a repetitive and strong rhythm bit, with the odd wispered backing vocal.

The Great Unknown

Kind of rock beginning with good use of the dual guitars. Calms down and goes into the lyrics, which are Max imitating Pete in his wispery singing style. After the first verse the song speeds up breifly and there's all sorts of lovely dual guitar stuff sweeping and so forth about the place. Back to the verse, in the same style as before and then building up to a faster, noiser chorus, followed by a brief slow down, another chorus type thing, a slow part that winds about for a while and then, without getting any louder or too much faster, sounds tenser, with muted guitar slowly building up to another chorus. A kind of sing along chorus no less. Quiet the first time and a little louder the second. This carries on for a while and gets a bit more enthusastic. Then it slows down, getting slower and slower and then that's it.

My Ideal Suitor

My Ideal Suitor is another fine example of Paul playing some pop. Catchy guitar riffs, fast moving and yet still relaxing before building up to fast moving and jumpy. Tis a goodun.

My ideal suitor's name, the closest that I came stopped just short of
conversation. The more that I invent the more confused I get but I can't
resist the tension. But I'm not blaming myself, 'cause it felt like
something else, an opportunity so tempting. It could only go so far, later
get into a borrowed car and put some tapes on just for driving. In the car
the tapes I played, 'Destroy-Oh-Boy' and 'Zen Arcade'. The songs could not
be loud enough, in counting down to leaving town got so loud they drowned
me out. My ideal suitor's name, the closest that I came stopped just short
of conversation. My ideal suitor's name, hear me say it to myself again,
it's not that I'm all talk but I'm without action. What I have in my
defence, a litany of non-events. For every motivating force, for every time
I've had a cause, doing nothing's thrilled me more and that's hard to want
to understand. An ideal that went unmatched, a flight of fancy that just
crashed.

The Kids Are No Good

He’ll act accordingly he’ll nod aggreeingly, he’ll only speak when he is spoken to. He says he’s sorry for all the worry that he has affectively brought on them I’ve got a lot of things to think about I’ve got alot of things to think about. She’ll act affrimitvely she knows her enemy she’s not afraid to wear her politics there’ll be no apology for burning the effigy that is now lying in her back yard I’ve got a lot of things to think about part again

Yet another high quality effort from Pete with his typical slow and windy touch. An interesting note. Originally all the bits about the boy used to be in first person.

Smashing Through

Nice little poppish country guitar start. Chugs along happily in a verse for a while before going totally rock and roll with a stuttering, yet undistorted, chorus over which the second guitar meanders. Another verse followed by another chorus. For the solo it slows down and there's a little bridge with more than one person singing that builds up to the chorus again. Another little geetar bridge and a chorusy bridgey bit. Then it ends.

This Glittering Night Of Nights

The final track on the debut long player starts with a reversed piece of music. Then it has a windy little guitar start, followed by slow, striking and deep bass and more windy guitar. Then Pete does his wispery slow vocals. Often notes are left to ring. After the first verse the beginning is repreated, followed by a louder chorus and the famous line "Maybe it was something I said, a misquote from something I read" then they go all slow again. Verse without singing, verse with singing. Then the beginning again. Chorus, that sounds a little slower and with the guitars still doing their swirly stuff. Near the end of the chorus things get louder. Then it ends suddenly and quietly.
